Fig Tree Gite is situated between the towns of Bergerac and Sainte Foy Le Grande, both are less than a 5 minute drive away and both are wonderful medieval market towns. Packed full of quintessentially French character both host fine restaurants and offer many insights into the French way of life. The Gite, close also to the Dordogne region, famous for the river that runs through it, offers many places of interest to sightseers and adventurers alike. From St Emillion to the Lascaux caves and Roc Gageac where the Dordogne carves its way through the canyon and houses are built into the vast rock face. Historic castles and chateaux abound - some with superb gardens including the famous 11th century chateau of Monbazillac. Nearby, all the vineyards in the region will be only too pleased to welcome you to their cave for free wine tasting. |

There are a number of walks - The modest Gardonne stream is truly an amazing route, taking its source not far from Monbazillac and then loosing itself in the Dordogne after some fifty kilometres or so - a journey that hesitates between hillsides covered with vineyards, green meadows and small shady valleys, which in passing greets a spruce hamlet or a manor and which, mainly, reserves for the rambler its own special lot of surprises … By its tropical attitude, the Gardonnette indeed transports the rambler into another world! Saussignac, takes you 15 to 20 minutes along an old Roman road through the vines. In Gageac there is the beautiful Chateau and the superb vineyard of Clos D Yvigne, recently the subject of Patricia Atkinson’s best selling book, The Ripening Sun. Sigoules is set among the vineyards, where you will find a selection of shops (baker, butcher, grocery store), as well as doctor and chemist. This part of France is a haven for wild birds. We regularly see a wide variety, from great buzzards to golden orioles, and at the right time of year the migration of thousands of storks overhead. Bring your binoculars with you! For those of you who desire to be active outdoors break, the area is very popular with cyclists as there are lots of quiet roads. There are also popular 1 to 3 day canoeing trips down the Dordogne with camping provided. Golf (18-hole) at the Chateau de Vigiers is only a few miles away and may be followed by an excellent lunch or dinner in their restaurant. Tennis and horse riding are among the many other sports facilities available. All summer long, Bergerac, Gardonne, Saussignac, Sigoules, Eymet, Issigeac and other local towns have markets, concerts and exhibitions with lots to do and see. All in all The Gite offers you a perfect location from which to base yourself whilst you pursue whatever activities you enjoy most! |

Utilities - microwave, electric hob, fridge/freezer, washing mashing. Rooms - bedroom (mezzanine floor with double-bed), bathroom (with bath, shower, toilet and washbasin). Furniture - dining table with seating for 4 plus comfy sofa. Other - linen and towels provided. Outdoors - patio, BBQ, private lawned and woodland gardens. Access - parking space.
